COMPSEES 73/1 erschienen
Comparative Southeast European Studies 73, no. 1, 2025 has been published. For the first time in its history, the journal has launched an Annual Theme. Its occasion is the 30th anniversary of Srebrenica and the Dayton Accords: "The Yugoslav Wars and the Year 1995: Reflections. Resilience. Reverberations"
Starting in 2025, Čarna Brković, anthropologist at the University of Mainz, will lead Comparative Southeast European Studies together with the Editor-in-Chief, Sabine Rutar.
The annual theme's contributions in this issue are:
- Hikmet Karčić's and Ben Gerstein's analysis of the context and consequences of the UN's Srebrenica Resolution, issued in 2024.
- Alexander Maxwell's et al. exploration of "lumpers" and "splitters" among linguists, when it comes to assessing what the authors call the "Central South Slavic" language.
- John Ashbrook's analysis of war-torn regional identities in Dalmatia.
In addition, Ralitsa Simeonova-Ganeva and Kaloyan Ganev provide long-durée data on Bulgaria's healthcare workforce during that country's transition from communism to postcommunism.
The open section turns to the current protest movement in Serbia:
Ivana Dinić has interviewed historian Dubravka Stojanović, who has been an important voice against war and violence and for democracy in Serbia since the 1990s.
