Description
Polina Barvinska is a researcher at the IOS within the framework of a Volkswagen Foundation scholarship for refugee academics from Ukraine.
Polina Barvinska received her PhD from the National I.I. Mečnykov University in Odesa in 2001 with a thesis on "Ukrainian-German Relations 1917—1922". In 2013, she successfully completed her habilitation on Eastern European Studies in German-speaking countries. During her academic career she held a professorship at the Department of World History at the same university. Since March 2022, Polina Barvinska has been a research fellow at the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies in Regensburg. There she is also involved in the joint project "Ukrainian Statehood, Germany, Russia: 1918 and the Aftermath" funded by the VolkswagenFoundation.
Polina Barvinska is a member of the German-Ukrainian Commission of Historians and the Austrian-Ukrainian Commission of Historians. She is also co-editor of the journal "Jahrbücher für Geschichte Osteuropas".
Her research interests include German-Ukrainian Relations, Eastern European Studies in German-speaking countries, Soviet History, German History, Politics of Memory, Oral History, Cultural and Transnational History.
