With a wide range of events of many different types, the IOS advances the specialist discourse on Eastern and Southeast Europe internationally, while also sharing this newly acquired knowledge with the interested public. Whereas workshops, conferences, summer academies, and colloquia mainly target the international academic community, the IOS Annual Conference is also aimed at the general public. In addition, the Institute regularly organizes lectures and large-scale events series on prominent topics that appeal to a broad audience in Regensburg and beyond.

The fact that teaching is also part of the IOS’ range of activities illustrates the close relationship the Institute has with the University of Regensburg. As a result, students come into contact with the IOS at an early stage, which makes an important contribution to the IOS’ promotion of young scholars.

Events are a key instrument for the initiation, shaping, and expansion of cooperative endeavors, as well as for the advancement of the IOS’ interdisciplinary research profile. At the same time, events are also a good opportunity for the public to get acquainted with the IOS and its focus areas.
