Südost-Forschungen
International Journal for the History, Culture and Regional Studies of Southeastern Europe
The journal Südost-Forschungen (Southeast European Research), which was first published in 1936 in the form of a yearbook, is the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies’ publication covering historical research on Southeast Europe. The journal takes an interdisciplinary approach and is open to contributions on subjects ranging from the Byzantine era to contemporary history. In its very comprehensive review section, Südost-Forschungen provides a broad overview of the current specialist literature in all relevant languages. Particular mention should be given to the internationality of the journal’s authors, and especially the large number of contributors from Southeast Europe.
The journal primarily comprises essays on the history of the cultures of Southeast Europe. In addition, contributions regarding geography, art, literature, religious studies, economics, linguistics, and folklore are considered, provided they are directly related to the history of Southeast Europe. The journal is divided into a section for essays and an extensive review section. The contributions, for which manuscripts can also be submitted in one of the Southeast European languages, are published in German, English, and French.
The latest issue, Volume 81 (2022), was published in October 2023.
Volume 82 (2023) is currently being prepared for publication in June 2024.
