Regensburg Catalog

More than ten Regensburg libraries involved in the Bavarian Library Network (BVB), index their catalog data in the Regensburg Catalog. Together with the Institute for East European Law, the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies runs the library in the Research Centre for Eastern and Southeast Europe. This joint library with around 360,000 media items is one of the most important libraries specializing in the countries of Eastern Europe. Almost the entire collection has been made electronically searchable.

Fachinformationsverbund "Internationale Beziehungen und Länderkunde"

Libraries of ten independent research institutes are part of the Fachinformationsverbund "Internationale Beziehungen und Länderkunde" (Information network "International Relations and Area Studies") (FIV IBLK), which is a joint information network. This network’s database is one of the largest social science literature databases in Europe and reflects the thematic focus of the institutes. Since 1991, the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies has been using the database to index articles from journals and anthologies. For this purpose, the library regularly evaluates 30 journals from Southeast Europe. These references are made available, together with further bibliographical data and full texts, in the International Relations and Area Studies Gateway(IREON).

Introduction to Research

1. Search for Monographs

a. Search for specific titles

- in the OPAC (Regensburg Catalog)

b. Subject-related search (books on certain subjects, persons, etc.)

- in the OPAC under the search category “keyword”

- in the keyword card catalog of the Eastern Europe collection: Search for countries, regions, locations, subjects, persons

- in the subject catalog of the Southeast Europe collection: Search for countries, areas, and persons, and transregionally for specific themes

- in special databases (containing collections of multiple library catalogs):

the research gateway to Central, Eastern, and Southeast Europe (osmikon): click “Advanced search”, select category “Subject (heading)”

2. Search for Journal Titles

- in the OPAC of the Journal Database (ZDB-OPAC): enter the title of the journal to be searched and the libraries that have that journal will be displayed by federal state and city

- by clicking on the selected library, the inventory data (with the journal’s shelf number + available issues by year) will be displayed

- in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB): accessibility options for full texts are displayed by different colored traffic-light symbols, depending on the respective institution (red = no access, yellow = access only in the IOS network, green = free access)

3. Search for Essays from Journals and Edited Volumes

- in ARTOS, the central database for articles and reviews on Eastern, East-Central and Southeast Europe on osmikon: in Basic Search across all fields, in Advanced Search in individual fields as well as in Classification Search (BSB-DDC) by region, subject, epoch, and resource type

- in the keyword card catalog of the Eastern Europe collection (green cards)

- at IREON: regional and subject-related search in nine languages (German, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Polish, Czech, Croatian)
Search is also possible for full texts only
Search can be broken down into essays, periodicals, books/papers, treaties, and other literature

- in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB): full texts of journal articles, freely accessible in part; alphabetical search by subject possible
