Dr. Sabina Kotova

Sabina Kotova is a researcher at the IOS within the framework of a Volkswagen Foundation scholarship for refugee academics from Ukraine.

Sabina Kotova studied History of the Slavs at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and earned a degree as M.A. in 2015. She received her PhD in History Science for the thesis "The enemy image" in the socio-humanitarian discourse of Great Britain, Germany and Russia during the World War I (1914—1918)” in 2020. Her research interests are history of Central and Eastern Europe, culture of memory politics, historical culture and imagology. Since 2015, Sabina Kotova has been organizing scientific seminars and workshops in cooperation with the Taras Shevchenko KNU and the IOS with the support of the Representative Office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Ukraine. Since 2020, she has been the technical editor of the journal "History and historiography in Europe". At IOS in Regensburg, she conducts research on Ukrainian statehood and its representations of perception / non-perception in the public, academic and political circles of Ukraine, Germany, Russia and other countries during the World War I with special attention to 1918. Before joining the IOS, she worked at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and headed the educational direction in the NGO “Ukrainian Alliance”.
