Description

Arevik Gnutzmann-Mkrtchyan obtained her PhD in Economics at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, in 2014 with a thesis on the economics of trade agreements. She has been a research fellow and subsequently a Junior Economic Affairs Officer at the World Trade Organization in Geneva in 2013 and 2014. After completing her PhD, she has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Leibniz Universität Hannover from 2014 to 2019, and subsequently an assistant professor from 2019 to 2024. She has served as an economic consultant/research associate for the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, the World Trade Organization, and BEROC.

Arevik Gnutzmann-Mkrtchyan joined IOS in September 2024. Her research focuses on the empirics of international trade in goods and services, international trade law, political economy and development. She conducts empirical research in economics, motivated by issues raised by the Eastern European region such as regional integration and regional development. She also has experience in interdisciplinary work from collaborations with researchers of law and political science.
