Statement on the Situation of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Working Group of Libraries and Documentation Centers for East, East Central and Southeast European Studies (ABDOS) e.V., of which the IOS is an institutional member, has published a statement on the increasingly precarious situation of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NUBBiH).

The library is on the verge of collapse – closure is imminent. For the cultural heritage, the book and information sector, and the future of a united Bosnia and Herzegovina, this would be a catastrophe. ABDOS warns of the serious consequences this would also have for Southeast European studies in the German-speaking world and appeals to European politicians and cultural institutions to work towards a solution.
