Talk by Oksana Dudko (University of Manitoba) as part of her fellowship at the IOS.

The talk will focus on the experiences of soldiers of the Ukrainian Galician Army during the typhus epidemic, violence against civilians, and the multi-front war of 1919. It examines how physical exhaustion, disease, and anti-Jewish pogroms shaped soldiers’ experiences, sense of self, and political decisions in revolutionary Ukraine.

Oksana Dudko is a historian and curator. She is Assistant Professor of Political Science and German and Slavic Studies at the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg, Canada). Her current research focuses on violence, war, and revolution in Ukraine and Eastern Europe.
