New Publication: "Aktuelle Forschungen zum nationalsozialistischen Kulturgutraub im östlichen Europa"
The edited volume "Current Research on National Socialist Cultural Property Theft in Eastern Europe" has been published in the DigiOst series. It stems from a conference at the IOS and a research project on Nazi-looted property in the Institute's library. The series, co-supervised by IOS, is published both in print and freely accessible online in Open Access.
Content
Unlike looted art, the extensive cultural property stolen by the National Socialists from Eastern European libraries is rarely examined separately in provenance research. This volume presents relevant projects and offers insights into research findings, distribution routes, and restitution reports. All of this is linked to considerations of how libraries can make provenance research findings permanently accessible. Specifically, it deals with looted library materials from present-day Poland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, and Hungary. The collections of the Herzog August Library Wolfenbüttel and the Humboldt University of Berlin are among those examined.
